The result is a warm, functional basement that adds valuable living space while increasing the home’s comfort, usability, and long-term value.
Project Overview
Owner Jimmy Lehoux managed every phase of this basement remodeling project, from planning and framing through finish carpentry and final installation. Every detail was completed with long-term durability, quality craftsmanship, and functionality in mind.
The Project Details
The homeowners wanted to transform their unfinished basement into a space their family could enjoy every day. The existing basement consisted of exposed framing, concrete walls, open mechanical systems, unfinished stairs, and bare concrete floors. While the space offered plenty of square footage, it wasn’t functional for relaxing, entertaining, or everyday living.
Rather than leaving the basement unfinished, J-Tek Construction designed a complete basement finishing solution that maximized the available space. The project included finishing the staircase, insulating and framing walls, installing drywall, recessed lighting, luxury vinyl plank flooring, interior trim, custom storage beneath the stairs, new closets with sliding doors, updated interior doors, and a spacious family room designed for entertainment and daily use.
The completed basement now provides the homeowners with a bright, comfortable extension of their living space while significantly increasing the home’s functionality and overall value.
Construction Process
This residential construction project began by preparing the unfinished basement for renovation. The team evaluated the existing framing, repaired foundation cracks where necessary, and completed layout planning before beginning construction.
Walls were framed and insulated before drywall installation and finishing. The staircase was completely rebuilt with new hardwood treads, painted risers, decorative balusters, and finished trim to create a seamless transition between floors.
The project continued with luxury vinyl plank flooring, recessed LED lighting, interior doors, custom closet installations, finish carpentry, painting, and the construction of custom storage beneath the staircase. Every phase of the project was completed with attention to detail to create a finished basement built for years of everyday use.
Before & During Construction
Before construction, the basement featured exposed insulation, unfinished concrete walls, open framing, structural support columns, unfinished stairs, and bare concrete flooring. While structurally sound, the space lacked the comfort and functionality expected from a finished living area.
As construction progressed, the basement began taking shape through framing, drywall installation, stair reconstruction, flooring installation, finish carpentry, and custom storage solutions. Each phase focused on transforming an unused basement into an inviting extension of the home’s main living space.

Finished Basement
The completed renovation transformed an unfinished basement into a bright, modern family room designed for relaxing, entertaining, and everyday living. Soft neutral colors, recessed lighting, durable luxury vinyl plank flooring, and custom trim create a clean, timeless appearance throughout the space.
One of the project’s standout features is the custom storage built beneath the staircase, providing practical organization without sacrificing usable floor space. New closets, updated doors, and thoughtful finish details maximize storage while maintaining a clean, finished appearance.
The result is a comfortable lower-level living area that adds usable square footage, improves everyday functionality, and increases the long-term value of the home.

Why Homeowners Finish Their Basements
An unfinished basement represents valuable living space that often goes unused. A professionally finished basement can provide additional room for entertaining, family gatherings, children’s play areas, home offices, fitness rooms, guest accommodations, or media rooms while increasing the overall value of the home.
Modern basement remodeling also improves lighting, storage, comfort, and energy efficiency, allowing homeowners to maximize the square footage they already own without the expense of building an addition.
